Tire creates his own fire company | News

TIRE — It’s official. The Tire Fire Co. Inc. will provide fire protection in this town of just over 1,000 residents.

The City Council voted May 22 to approve the company's incorporation. On Friday, it was made official with the acceptance of incorporation documents by the New York State Department of State.

Supervisor Elizabeth Partee said the next step will be for the new fire company to schedule its organizational meeting.

“Active Tire Fire Co. members will integrate with the Galen-Clyde Fire District staff,” Partee said.

The city has contracted with the Galen-Clyde Fire District, immediately north of Tire in Wayne County, to provide fire protection services since the disbandment of the Magee Volunteer Fire Department in 2021 .

“Additionally, the Galen-Clyde Fire District will assume responsibility for the training, operational response and leadership development of Tire Fire Co. members, as outlined in an intermunicipal agreement between the city and district fire,” Partee said.

The new fire company will operate out of the old Magee Fire Station on Routes 414 and 318. It also has a fire station on Lamb Road, but its future is under review.

The issue of fire protection came to the forefront when the Magee Volunteer Fire Department, formed in 1949 to provide fire protection for the city, had problems due to health and safety violations. safety and gambling law issues in 2020. This led state Attorney General Leticia James. file a petition with the state Supreme Court to disband the Magee Fire Department. It was approved by Supreme Court Justice Dan Doyle in June 2021.

Magee's assets were ordered turned over to the city. These assets had a value of $2.8 million.

In October 2022, the Tire City Board voted to create a new fire company, while continuing to contract with Galen-Clyde until that happens.
