The 17-year-old boy showed up at the hospital early Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with a gunshot wound to the chest suffered in the shooting along the 1800 block of East Lippincott Street, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The boy was being treated in critical condition.

Investigators found evidence that a single shot had been fired along Lippincott Street, Small said.

Police said they did not know how the teen arrived at the hospital or any other circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Investigators were hoping to collect surveillance video to help them track down the shooter, Small said.

Teens were also shot in West and North Philadelphia

The Kensington incident was not the only shooting of a teenager in Philadelphia that night.

A 17-year-old girl was shot above the right eye in a shooting near 60th and Spruce streets in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of West Philadelphia around 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, police said.

The girl was taken to hospital in stable condition, police said.

The search for the motive for the shooting and who pulled the trigger continued Wednesday, police said.

An 18-year-old was also hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in the leg along North Randolph Street in North Philadelphia, Small said.

The Randolph Street shooting happened late Tuesday night around 11:30 p.m., investigators said.

The search for a motive for the teen's shooting and who pulled the trigger continued Wednesday, police said.

Children account for about 13 percent of the nearly 550 shooting victims in Philadelphia so far this year, according to data from the city comptroller's office.
