Original story:

On Friday, June 7, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrested two teenagers on several weapons-related charges.

After learning that a Minden resident, a 17-year-old male, allegedly attempted to sell a stolen Springfield Armory semi-automatic weapon to another teenager, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation.

DCSO made contact with the 17-year-old suspect and recovered the stolen gun.

During their investigation, DCSO learned that the teen allegedly obtained the gun from another 16-year-old from Gardnerville.

On Friday, June 7, DCSO detectives made contact with the 16-year-old Gardnerville resident, who they say admitted to selling the stolen gun to the Minden teen.

In that interview, they say the 16-year-old admitted that he, along with another 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, both of Gardnerville, stole the gun along with another weapon, a pistol Ruger, during a series of car burglaries they committed in the Gardnerville Ranchos early on the morning of Sunday, May 26.

The stolen weapons had not been reported to the police.

Police report the stolen Ruger gun was sold to a 16-year-old Gardnerville resident who was on parole for car theft.

Police said they located the 16-year-old Gardnerville parole inmate on Friday, June 7, with a weapon still in his possession.

Both teens were arrested and booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center.

The 16-year-old Gardnerville resident was booked for parole violation, possession of a stolen weapon, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and minor in possession of a firearm.

The 17-year-old man, a Minden resident, was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and minor in possession of a firearm.

Burglary and weapons charges are pending against the three teens involved who committed the car burglaries in the Ranchos.
