Three people taken to hospital after early morning shootings in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to multiple shootings overnight that left three people in area hospitals.

The shootings occurred about 45 minutes apart at various locations in the Indianapolis area.


Shooting in downtown near the canal

The first incident was reported shortly after 3 a.m. in the 300 block of West Michigan Street, near the downtown canal.

Firefighters were called to the scene due to a major disturbance and found one person with gunshot wounds. The individual was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

“We're on scene of an incident on the canal,” said IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer. “It started with a large disturbance, with a large group of children and adults.”

Shooting in the Middle East

About 15 minutes later, at 3:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to N. Oakland Ave. and E. Michigan St. on the east side.

Officers found a person who had been shot and taken to an area hospital, police said.

East Side Shooting

The third shooting was reported around 3:45 a.m. in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive on the city's east side.

Police found a person with gunshot wounds at the location; the victim was taken to an area hospital. The shooting remains under investigation.
