Three people shot near Pilot Travel Center in North Palm Springs

Three people were found shot to death near the Pilot Travel Center in North Palm Springs Sunday afternoon, police said.

Officers received a call about a victim shot in the head near North Indian Canyon Drive and Garnet Avenue around 1:15 p.m., the Palm Springs Police Department said in a news release. Police found two men dead in a white Toyota sedan and a third man, dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds, “just south of Interstate 10 near the Indian Canyon Drive overpass.”

Officers did not believe there were any outstanding suspects and said they believed the two scenes were related. Police are not releasing the victims' names pending notification of next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

Seven vehicles, including Palm Springs police, the Riverside County Coroner's Office, Riverside County Medical Examiners and district attorney investigators, are on scene.

The white sedan remains at the intersection.

Wendy's Restaurant and Pilot Travel Center remain open as officers continue to speak with those at the scene.

Palm Springs Police Department Lt. Mike Villegas said southbound Indian Canyon Drive, south of Interstate 10, will remain closed as the investigation continues. The eastbound Interstate 10 exit ramp to Indian Canyon Drive also has been closed.
