Three people in Ekiti court for alleged possession of explosives

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned three men before an Ado Ekiti Magistrate’s Court for alleged possession of explosives.

The accused: Adamu Abdullahi, 46 years old; Haruna Musa, 57, and Sanni Garba, 26, face a charge of possession of explosives.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court on Friday that the accused committed the offense on June 5, in Ado Ekiti.

The prosecutor affirmed that “the defendants had in their possession three 32 mm cartridges, a detonating cord and ignition cables.

“The offense contravened Section 1(c) and was punishable under Section 1(e) of the Explosives Act, 1964 and the Explosives Regulations, 1967,” Oriyomi said.

He urged the court to adjourn the matter to allow it to study the case and gather its witnesses.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The defendants’ lawyer, Mr. Ademola Richard, urged the court to grant the defendants bail with a promise that they would not forfeit their bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the accused persons bail of N500,000 with one surety each for a similar sum.

The court adjourned the matter until July 29 for further hearing.
