Three people arrested for car thefts in Clayton

CLAYTON, Mo. – Police have arrested three individuals for involvement in thefts from unlocked vehicles.

The incident happened in the Clayshire neighborhood near Clayton Road and S. Brentwood Boulevard around 11 p.m. Tuesday evening. A local resident reported the suspicious activity to police.

When the suspects saw police arriving, they fled the scene on foot before being caught after a short chase.

Police say the suspects' vehicle was stolen before the incident in the Clayshire neighborhood. Additionally, additional stolen property belonging to St. Louis and Clayton residents was discovered.

“We commend the resident who quickly called 911 after admitting to criminal activity. By not intervening, he avoided putting himself in unnecessary danger. His wise decision also allowed our officers to effectively handle the situation,” Clayton police said.

Officials say Clayton has seen a 39 percent decrease in car thefts compared to the same time last year, but the problem remains concerning. They recommend bringing valuables inside and making sure keys are removed from vehicles.
