Three people arrested following domestic incident in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Three people were arrested Sunday in Enfield following a domestic violence incident.

According to the Enfield Police Department, officers received a report of a domestic violence incident at a home on Poplar Street at 5:51 p.m. Before officers arrived, the victims informed officers that the suspect left the scene on foot with his dog.

Two K-9 teams were used to track the suspect's scent into the nearby neighborhood which led to a wooded area west of Gordon Avenue. The suspect's dog was found running loose and officers heard the suspect moving through the brush along the east bank of the Connecticut River.

When officers approached the bank, they saw the suspect slide down the bank and into the river. Officers attempted to call the suspect, who then refused to return to shore as he continued to swim further into the river while making suicidal statements.

A fire boat with officers on board was launched to intercept the suspect who was being carried away by the current. About 1.2 miles from shore, officers were able to make contact with the suspect, who still refused to come out of the water and continued to make suicidal statements.

After a fight with the police, two of the suspect's members were overpowered and then taken into custody. The suspect was then transported to the hospital for evaluation. He is charged with 3rd degree assault (3 counts), 2nd degree breach of peace, and interfering with police, and is currently being held on $50,000 bail. His dog was unharmed and was returned to the suspect's family.

During this arrest, a 56-year-old man Eileen MacDonald I was listening to a police scanner and wanted to know what was going on. She drove to the incident where a police officer recognized her and said “Hello.” While speaking to MacDonald, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. MacDonald and his passenger, 40 years old Christine Cooley, were thrown from the vehicle. Officers found 36.5 grams of Fentanyl, 14.41 grams of crack cocaine, 25 packets of Suboxone and more than $200 in small denominations of drug proceeds.

MacDonald and Cooley were both arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and are each being held on $100,000 bail.
