Three people arrested after man stole Fairfax County police cruiser, then crashed it

The man who robbed Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers during a chase in a stolen police car Friday has been arrested, according to law enforcement officials.

On June 21, an officer discovered a stolen 2010 Toyota Corolla near the Fair Oaks Mall. There were three people inside the car.

Kenton Smith, the driver, attempted to drive away when the officer arrived. As the officer attempted to arrest Smith, another passenger in the Corolla, Eric Gutierrez slipped into the officer's unmarked police car and drove off.

Other officers pursued Gutierrez, who eventually crashed into two police cars. He was taken into custody as his injuries were not life-threatening.

Smith and the other passenger, Natrua Mayfield-Jackson, were arrested at the mall.

Two of the officers who responded to the scene were also injured, but their lives were not in danger during the accident.
