Three Ottawa residents charged following high-risk traffic stop and loaded firearms seizure


Three people from Ottawa are facing multiple charges following a high-risk traffic stop over the weekend.

On June 1, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 17 from Pembroke was believed to have a loaded firearm inside.

Renfrew OPP located the vehicle, conducted a high-risk traffic stop and closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 417, west of Campbell Drive.

As a result of the investigation, Pembroke and Renfrew OPP seized a loaded firearm, drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Elijah Desmond Adan, 23, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Violation of firearms regulations – transport firearm or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number has been falsified
  • Adult possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to a Prohibition Order (two counts)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon by an adult for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Failure to comply with a probation order (six counts)
  • Trafficking in Schedule I substances – cocaine
  • Carrying a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a negligent manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Marie Ebony Barnabe, 27, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Violation of firearms regulations – transport firearm or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Carrying a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a negligent manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Trafficking in Schedule I substances – cocaine

Brandon Kennedy Earl Parent, 23, of Kanata, faces the following charges:

  • Violation of firearms regulations – transport firearm or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing that the serial number has been falsified
  • Adult possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Carrying a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a negligent manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Trafficking in Schedule I substances – cocaine
  • All three accused were held on bail.
