Three online fundraisers near $50,000 for Apple River stabbing victims

One of five people stabbed Saturday on the Apple River in Somerset, Wisconsin, has been identified as AJ Martin.

The 22-year-old Elk River man was tubing on the river when Nicolae Miu, 52, of Prior Lake, began stabbing people, including Isaac Schuman, 17, of Stillwater, who died later. Miu was charged Monday with first-degree intentional homicide and four counts of attempted homicide.

Rhyley Mattison, 24, of Burnsville, and two men from Luck, Wisconsin, ages 20 and 22, were also stabbed.

An online fundraiser for Martin said the young man was tubing with friends and family to celebrate a birthday.

“During the tubing, he was stabbed in the abdomen, resulting in serious injuries that left him in critical condition requiring a rescue flight to the hospital,” a post on GoFundMe states. “Once in hospital, he underwent extensive surgery and intensive care for his injuries. Since he has undergone additional surgery with his third and hopefully final scheduled for later this week, the road to recovery will be long.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $7,000 had been raised.

An online fundraiser to support Schuman's family topped $33,000 Tuesday, and the one started by Mattison topped $9,000.
