DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – The Danville Police Department reports that three juveniles were taken into custody in connection with alleged vehicle burglaries on Wednesday, July 3.

According to the police department, officers were dispatched at 5 a.m. to Hermitage Dr. for a report of multiple people breaking into vehicles in the area. Officers said they saw three individuals flee on foot from a moving vehicle, which also left the scene.

Police reported that the same vehicle was later found crashed and unoccupied on Setliff Street. However, the owner of the vehicle told police that the car was believed to have been stolen from her residence on Holbrook St.

At approximately 6:25 a.m., officers continued to search for the three individuals believed to be involved and located three young men matching the suspects' descriptions on Memorial Dr. near the Robertson Bridge. When officers pulled up to the suspects, police said they allegedly fled along the river bank and into the river, exiting the river to the north.

Police said two individuals were arrested, but one suspect was not located with the others. As a precaution, the Danville Fire Department's Swift Water Rescue Team and the Danville Life Saving Crew's drone team were called to check the river for the third suspect.

After searching the river, police reportedly located the final suspect later that morning on Trade Street.

No charges have been filed against the three juvenile suspects at this time, but police say the investigation is ongoing.
