Three men sentenced to prison for drug trafficking

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Three men have been sentenced to 20 years or more in prison for drug trafficking, according to the Washoe County Prosecutor's Office.

David Gilbert and Alejandro Diaz-Sanchez were sentenced to 25 years in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for trafficking 400 grams of methamphetamine. The two men were arrested in October last year when Gilbert was approached about a sale.

After an undercover agent gave Gilbert money for the drugs, Diaz-Sanchez arrived on the scene with nearly a kilo of meth to complete the sale. Both were then taken into custody.

Gilbert and Diaz-Sanchez pleaded guilty to trafficking in a Schedule 1 controlled substance.

In another case, Cody Churchill was sentenced to 20 years in prison with the possibility of parole after eight years after pleading guilty to cocaine trafficking.

The case against Churchill began in January 2024 after he was stopped for speeding on I-80 near Derby Dam. Churchill gave an inconsistent account of his travel plans and revealed he had a criminal history involving drug sales while speaking to police.

Police then deployed a K9 unit which detected more than three pounds of cocaine.
