Three Melaka transport companies to be charged for alleged profiteering

MELAKA: Three transport companies in Melaka who failed to provide a reasonable explanation for the increase in prices of their services during Op Kesan 2.0, in force since June 6, will be charged in court next week.

Melaka Department of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) director Norena Jaafar said written notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiting Act ( AKHAP) 2011 were sent to the three companies, but they did not respond within the deadline. stipulated deadline.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the three transport companies had been approved for a 'fleet card' application under the Subsidized Diesel Control System 2.0 (SKDS 2.0).

“These companies are among the 41 SKDS 2.0 beneficiaries being inspected for any unreasonable service charges or price increases,” she told reporters at the Melaka Historical Municipal Board (MBMB) Pasar Besar today.

She said this after an inspection of Op Kesan 2.0 in collaboration with Hari Raya Aidiladha, which was also attended by National Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee deputy chairman Datuk Zaidi Attan.

Norena further explained that Melaka KPDN will continue to gradually intensify inspections of SKDS beneficiaries across the state to curb unreasonable increases in prices of services or goods.

She said that every day, five teams consisting of 17 law enforcement officers will be deployed to inspect the businesses involved, and written notices under Article 21 of the AKHAP 2011 will be issued if there appears to have committed related offenses.

The public with information regarding price increases of goods or services involving SKDS beneficiaries can report them to KPDN at 012-6654292 for further action.
