THREE CHILDHOOD FRIENDS ARRESTED FOR TRAFFICKING CANNABIS VIA TELEGRAM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) – Police on Monday arrested three childhood friends suspected of running a cannabis trafficking syndicate via Telegram.

Sentul district police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the three local men, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested in two raids between 2.20pm and 5.50pm in the areas around Publika and Wisma Cosway, Jalan Raja Chulan here.

The syndicate had used courier services to distribute the drugs throughout the Klang Valley without meeting customers directly after collecting their orders via Telegram, he said, adding that questioning of the suspects led police to a premises in Wisma Cosway, where police seized 23.322 kilograms (kg) of cannabis.

“A white polystyrene box filled with dried cannabis leaves weighing 0.414kg and three clean plastic bags filled with cannabis flowers weighing a total of 0.65kg were also seized,” he said at a press conference at the Sentul district police headquarters today.

A Mercedes Benz and a Nissan Almera were also seized from the Wisma Cosway car park and all seizures were estimated to be worth RM85,980, he said.

“The three suspects have no criminal record, but one of them tested positive for THC,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police also requested an extension of the suspects' five-day pre-trial detention period, which ends today.
