Three-alarm fire under investigation in Uptown, firefighters say – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte firefighters are working to determine what sparked a massive fire in downtown early Thursday morning.

Fire officials said the incident began around 2 a.m. at a home on Margaret Brown Street near Frazier Park.

Channel 9 reporter Eli Brand learned the house was vacant; however, the fire managed to spread to a nearby apartment complex.

Fire officials said several buildings were damaged in that fire and four people had to be evaluated by first responders. One of those people ultimately had to be taken to an area hospital for treatment.

At the scene, Channel 9 observed that one of the buildings had completely collapsed and a few others had burn marks all over them.

The fire eventually reached three alarms before being brought under control, according to firefighters.

A person who lives nearby told Channel 9 they watched the entire incident as it unfolded.

“It’s like this whole building was destroyed. Three or four buildings were damaged by the fire. It’s just completely insane,” the witness described.

Firefighters said the building that collapsed was intentionally set on fire Wednesday, but they managed to put it out.

It caught fire again Thursday morning, burning it completely. The cause of the second fire is still under investigation.
