Thousands sign petition to create 'Miya's Law' after missing baby case

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A new Change.org petition circulating social media titled “Miya's Law,” to help babies born into unsafe conditions, has garnered over 2,000 signatures.

Eric Williams, the creator of the petition, is from Central City and originally an Ohio County native. He revealed he has no relation to Miya Rudd or her family but is a concerned citizen who felt very passionately about the situation.

“Miya's Law” is a proposal to help establish stronger laws and protections for children who may find themselves in this situation.

Williams created this petition after reading “frustrating” comments on social media regarding the case. Williams said, “Not enough is being done for these kids or else this would not have happened.”

When asked if he had seen anyone else attempt to speak up, Williams added, “No one did anything. Everyone is scared of social media pushback. But somebody has got to do it.” This led to Williams creating the petition that now has over 2,000 signatures.

According to Williams' petition, he writes, “It's not a law to prevent family from being together. It’s a law to protect the innocent from a very lost and unsafe parent at home.”
