Thompson Fire burns more than 75 acres, forces evacuations – Chico Enterprise-Record

OROVILLE — The Thompson Fire grew to 75 to 100 acres Tuesday near Diversion Pool in Oroville.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office ordered evacuations by 1 p.m. in areas 534, 535, 536, 953, 954 and 731 in Oroville and Cherokee, according to BCSO social media.

Evacuation warnings were issued for areas 950 to 952 and areas 955 to 968 around 1 p.m.

There is an evacuation warning for area 730.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office issues an evacuation warning for Area 716.

The fire started around 10:51 a.m. Tuesday near Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Road, said Cal Fire-Butte County Capt. Dan Collins.

Firefighters are currently battling the blaze and aircraft are present.

Collins asked the public to stay out of the area for the time being.

The Oroville Church of the Nazarene, located at 2238 Monte Vista Ave. in Oroville, has been opened as an evacuation shelter by Butte County.
