This new '80s teen adventure about three high school friends' last night together is already making me nostalgic thanks to its awesome music

Today during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, a brand new teen adventure game was revealed called Mixtape.
This game tells the story of a group of high school teenagers in the 80s as they spend their last night together and relive important experiences that led them to that moment.
It features a fantastic soundtrack including songs from The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, DEVO, Roxy Music and more.

At today's Xbox Games Showcase 2024, we were introduced to a brand new Beethoven & Dinosaur game called Mixtape that's all about saying goodbye to your high school friends. As explained on Xbox Wire, “On their last night of high school, three friends embark on a new adventure together. En route to their last party together, a perfectly curated playlist takes them into dreamlike recreations of their formative memories together.”

From what we saw in the trailer, this game is already making me nostalgic for my teenage years and I can't wait to play it.

The gameplay apparently takes players through a “variety of narrative vignettes”, similar to what happens in What Remains of Edith Finch, where you'll help the characters relive important moments from their past together. These special moments include things like someone's first kiss or a memory of a dance.

To immerse you in the nostalgia of it all, the game features a fantastic soundtrack with songs from The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, DEVO, Roxy Music, and more.

I'm so ready for this game

There are plenty of games aimed at teens that attempt to play on nostalgia, but few are able to pull me in and keep me interested as much as Mixtape did with its reveal trailer. Of course, a big part of it is that some of the best music from my childhood and adolescence plays an important role in the adventure.

But aside from the literal idea of the mixtape, the stop-motion animation, the '80s aesthetic, and the fact that this is these teens' last night together takes me right back to that special feeling movies evoke teen classics like Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and more. It's just you and your friends against the world, right before you're separated and go your separate ways, not knowing if you'll stay in touch or what the future holds.
