Third victim in Lake Eufaula deaths missing

EUFAULA, Ala. (WDHN) — An investigation is underway after Houston and Eufaula County authorities found a car 12 feet underwater at Lake Eufaula with the bodies of a woman and child inside. inside, but they are still looking for a third body.

A type of case that hasn't been seen in Eufaula in years

“It’s quiet,” said Eufaula resident Debra Rugg. “It’s a quiet town, not very active like Colorado Springs and the big cities.”

Bodies were found Sunday evening in a vehicle at Old Town Creek Park on Lake Eufaula by search and rescue teams. The bodies of a woman and a child were reported missing earlier this month, along with those of another woman, but the other woman's body was not found during Sunday's search.

“At this point the coroner and the dive team assured me that with the temperature of the water and several days having passed if another body was there it would have floated away by now,” he said. said Eufaula Police Chief Danny Crist.

Crews were called to the scene after a resident told them they saw a car go into the lake. With the help of the Houston County Search and Rescue team, they were able to pull the car from the water with the bodies.

In this case, police say they are still questioning a few people to determine whether this incident involved foul play or not.

The bodies were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification, then crews returned to the water all day Monday searching for the third body.

“We took boats and searched the shoreline to include every piece of shoreline down to the grass, but we found nothing,” Crist said.

This happened on a lake in the Wiregrass which is very popular during the summer and last weekend there was a boating tournament in which almost 200 people competed, but no one reported seeing a other body.

“With the amount of boat traffic this weekend, we feel like someone would have seen something,” Crist said.

Houston County Search and Rescue Chairman Chris Ball told WDHN that another Houston County team may return to Lake Eufaula to search for the third body, but nothing has been confirmed.
