Third suspect sought and arrested for human trafficking

A third suspect was arrested on human trafficking allegations. The Interior Ministry arrested the 41-year-old suspect on Thursday for illegally staying in the country.

Success Egabor was later dealt to the Hawks due to additional human trafficking allegations.

Earlier, the Hawks arrested two other suspects who were refused bail at the George Magistrates' Court. Their case against the two men, Nontobeko Mathunjwa (35) and Precious Abudu (34), has been adjourned to June 10, 2024 for further investigation.

The Hawks Organized Crime Investigation Team, based in George, was intensively searching for the third suspect, who was believed to be residing in Cape Town.

On Thursday, a member of the Strand Home Office informed the Hawks of the illegal arrest of a foreign national in the country. After sharing the details, it was confirmed that the person arrested was the wanted suspect.

Egabor appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Friday and his case was adjourned to June 10, 2024, to join his two co-accused.

“The Provincial Head of the Falcons, Major General Makgato, commended the effective cooperation between the two departments and highlighted the importance of information sharing that led to this arrest, which in turn facilitates the task .”
