“They can’t have it both ways.”

A 17-year-old girl refuses to watch the children during her brother's wedding.

She took to Reddit's “Am I the A******” forum about it. Her brother didn't invite her to the wedding because no children were allowed. But then he and his fiancée insisted that she watch nine children overnight during the ceremony.

“I was originally supposed to be a bridesmaid at my brother's wedding in 2020, but they canceled when my sister-in-law (SIL) found out she was pregnant,” she wrote. “There was no talk of marriage until two weeks ago when they surprised us by saying that they were legally married but would be getting married officially with family and friends at her aunt's mansion. SIL to save money for the honeymoon Apparently the aunt said kids weren't allowed in her mansion, but she would allow my sister's daughter (the flower girl) and the baby. of my brother to attend the ceremony for 20 minutes so they could take photos before they had to leave, otherwise she 'I would have stopped the wedding. They explained that since it was a marriage without children and I' was technically a child (lol), I wouldn't be allowed to attend anyway So they decided that I and the bride's 16 year old cousin would babysit a total of 9 children in order to be able to attend the wedding. without being there.

When she confronted the couple about it, the family members exploded at each other.

“I honestly couldn't talk because of the shock until my sister suggested I take their kids overnight because they would all be hungover the next day,” the teenager explained. “I screamed, NO, NO, NO, I'M NOT YOUR NANNY, DON'T EVER ASK ME TO BABYSIT AGAIN, NEVER FUCK YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN, before I started crying. My parents came into the room and demanded to know what happened, so I told them and they were pissed. My father said that I was not their slave and that he was tired of them treating me like one. My mother said that if they tried to pressure me in any way to babysit again, they wouldn't pay anything for the wedding. We all got into a massive fight. My brother told my parents not to go to the wedding and my sister claimed I was the favorite, so she's not on good terms with them either. The marriage ended up being canceled because the other daughter didn't want to watch the kids on her own, so no childcare and they relied on my parents' money for several things.

The editors sided with the teen on this point.

“They can’t have it both ways. They claim you’re a child so you can’t attend a wedding without kids, but you’re adult enough to supervise nine kids for days,” someone said.

“They didn’t want you to come because they wanted a free babysitter,” another wrote.

“They are out of line expecting you to want to babysit everyone’s kids,” someone commented.
