The Sites Fire is now the largest active fire in California

CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit

(FOX40.COM) — The Sites Fire has now eclipsed all other wildfires in California as data updated Thursday morning shows the fire has grown to 19,195 acres with 15% containment. .

During the Thursday morning briefing on the site fire, CAL FIRE emphasized that crews will continue to focus on the northern edge of the fire, near the Devil's Elbow area.

Crews working on the southwest edge of the fire were able to construct strong containment lines that are holding back the fire.

Updated fire maps show much of the fire growth Wednesday came from the northeast area where crews will continue to cut the line south of Site Lodoga Road and emergency lines north of the road.

CAL FIRE said more than 1,500 people are now working the fire scene, including 14 helicopters, 3 of which have night-flying capabilities.

Weather remains a concern as the week's cooling trend will give way to another heat advisory that poses a health concern for fire crews but threatens to lower humidity levels.

Falling humidity levels will mean the likelihood of ignition of fuels, such as tall grass and brush, will remain at around 100 percent over the weekend.

Today, CAL FIRE predicts humidity levels will drop to 60°F by the afternoon, accompanied by temperatures rising to 90°F.
