The second of three K-9 officers unveiled by Oneida County sheriffs

CLINTON, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — The Oneida County Sheriffs unveiled their second of three K-9 units at the Indium Corporation in Clinton on Wednesday, June 5. Today, the sheriffs welcomed “Indi” to the ranks of Oneida County. Sheriffs.

Indi is a one-year-old Belgian Malinois from Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania. His handler, Deputy Daniel Walts, has worked for the Oneida County Sheriffs for seven years. Walts has served with various units of the Sheriff's Office, including the Marine, ATV and Snowmobile units, and is a certified member of the Sheriff's Crisis Response Team.


“Indium Corporation's existence is deeply tied to the Mohawk Valley region, employing people in our region for 90 years. We are committed to supporting the communities that are integral to our long-standing success,” said Greg Evans, CEO of Indium Corporation in a statement. “Our collaboration with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office to sponsor Indi, a K-9 student, serves part of our local mission. By strengthening our support for first responders and keeping our communities safe, we foster vibrant communities. We are very happy to contribute to the field in which we were founded.

Deputies Walts and Indi are currently training to become certified in explosives detection and tracking.

This partnership between business and law enforcement, thinking outside the box, significantly improves public safety,” Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol said in a statement.

The third K-9 unit will be presented to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6 at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office on Judd Road in Oriskany.
