The roguelike Prince of Persia from Dead Cells developer is getting a whole new biome with enemies, weapons, and more in its first free update, Temple of Fire.

It's the final day of Summer Game Fest, and the event is wrapping up with this year's Ubisoft Forward – a showcase that brought a wealth of Prince of Persia news, including a first look at the first update major day in the roguelike series.

The Rogue Prince of Persia has only been available in Steam Early Access for a few weeks, but legendary indie developer Evil Empire has already prepared its first big update – and it's completely free to download right now. The Fire Temple brings the roguelike entry in the iconic series closer to its full release in 2025, adding a whole new biome with challenges, weapons, and more.

The Fire Temple biome, accessible after the Berude boss, features all kinds of roguelite essentials, including new enemies to face, difficult platforming mechanics to overcome, and tricky traps to overcome. It's certainly a testament to the developer's experience with similar gems like Dead Cells – platforming parkour mayhem and all.

Players running through The Rogue Prince of Persia's Fire Temple update will encounter two new enemies: the Duelist and the Protected Warrior. They come with an amazing weapon that also makes combat feel fresh: the Flaming Censers, giant swinging fireballs.

The update also introduces the Meta Progression skill tree, allowing players to unlock upgrades between their runs by spending Spirit Glimmers collected along the way. Excitingly, Evil Empire claims that this new system “will also be expanded in the near future.”
