The right person to lead the Jasper County Sheriff's Office – Newton Daily News

My name is Duane Rozendaal and I am currently the Chief Deputy for the Jasper County Sheriff's Office in Newton. I have served in this position, under the command of Sheriff John Halferty, since retiring from the Iowa State Patrol in January 2013.

As many of you know, Sheriff Halferty will conclude his duties as Sheriff in December 2024. Sheriff Halferty has been instrumental in bringing the Jasper County Sheriff's Office to the level of professionalism it possesses today . Lieutenant Brad Shutts played a vital role in this success. If Lt. Shutts is elected, he has the knowledge, experience and desire to continue to lead the Sheriff's Office on its current path of excellence.

Lieutenant Shutts is familiar with all aspects of the daily operations of the Sheriff's Office. Lt. Shutts provided assistance and leadership in meeting budgetary needs, establishing state-of-the-art communications and hiring new communications operators, deputies and jail staff.

The current sheriff requires his employees to adhere to the highest standards of integrity. The hiring process uses board interviews, polygraph tests, the MMPI, and a thorough background investigation. Once a candidate meets these rigorous qualifications, they are invited to be part of the team. If elected, Lt. Brad Shutts will uphold these same standards for current employees and new employees in the future. There is no doubt that Lt. Shutts is the right person to lead the Jasper County Sheriff's Office into the future. He embodies all the qualities necessary to lead well as Sheriff John Halferty's successor.

Lieutenant Shutts is a dedicated and thoughtful individual and has the utmost respect for everyone he meets. I had the opportunity to work with Lt. Shutts' father, Mike Shutts, over the years. Thanks to the positive influence of his father, Lt. Shutts knows what it means to be a leader with a servant's heart and has a long legacy in law enforcement that will benefit him as the next Sheriff of Jasper County.

I have met Lt. Shutts' family and it is evident that he has a great support team at home, consisting of his wife, sons and extended family. I know personally that this support will help him in his efforts if he is elected to the position of Jasper County Sheriff. I look forward to and appreciate the opportunity to serve in the years to come under the leadership of Brad Shutts.
