“The Price Is Right” Nearly Perfect Showcase Win Sparks All-Time Reaction From Drew Carey

The surprise was as real as it was on television.

Drew Carey found himself with his jaw on the floor during Friday's show. The price is right during the final moments of the Showcase Showdown. As Entertainment Weekly reports, the winner of the last episode could have made the biggest offer in the history of the series.

Patrice Masse of Grand Prarie, Alberta, Canada found some luck and fought his way to the final, placing a bid that would normally be a disaster and making history. After hearing about the showcase package that included a vacation to Miami and a new car, Masse offered $39,500.

The surprise on Carey's face after opening the card with the answer says it all. The overbidding meant disaster in the game and Masse arrived just under the wire. “So, let me tell you…” Carey said at that point. “Thirty-nine thousand, five-oh-ONE. Without any help from anyone in the audience, for that matter.”

The current rules of the game show state that any participant who bids within $250 of the actual price without going over the price wins both showcases. The text “Double Showcase Winner” appears on the screen in gold and everyone is stunned by where it is. Carey quickly called the moment the “Best Showcase Deal” in the show's history and earned Masse $83,068 in prize money between the two deals.

Entertainment Weekly notes that some of his winnings included a Kia K5 GT, trips to Milan, Hawaii and Miami, a new motorcycle and top brand clothing from Versace, Gucci and others.
