The Okaloosa Sheriff's Office is releasing access to public records in the fatal deputy-involved shooting of Roger Fortson.

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Public records have been released regarding the fatal deputy-involved shooting of Roger Fortson.

Fortson was killed in a deputy-involved shooting on May 3, 2024, in Fort Walton Beach. Deputies were responding to calls about a disturbance at an apartment complex.

Records released today include the non-emergency call reporting a disturbance at 319 Racetrack Road, Apartment 1401.

Attorney Ben Crump represents Fortson's family, and he says Fortson was alone when a deputy knocked on his door.

NewsChannel 7 has reached out to Crump's office and we are awaiting a response regarding their response to the recordings released Friday.

These records include:

  • Initial call to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office non-emergency phone line requesting service at the Fortson apartment complex
  • 9-1-1 call for service occurred near the shooting
  • The incident report completed at the time of the shooting
  • CAD (Computer Aided Shipping) Notes

OCSO says an internal administrative investigation was also initiated with the consent of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Additional records have been released by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office regarding the death of Airman Robert Fortson.

This is the second 911 call that was made moments after the shooting involving the deputy.
