The motel where San Antonio police found kidnapping victims and arrested 4 suspects was the scene of numerous other crimes

SAN ANTONIO – A motel near downtown San Antonio, where five people were allegedly rescued after being held against their will, was the scene of numerous other crimes.

San Antonio police said they acted on a tip Saturday evening when they found the victims in a room at the Inn & Studios Downtown, located near Interstate 35 and S. Laredo Street.

They also arrested four people, identified as Monica Martin, 45; Susan Fisher, 49; Ty Morris, 58; and Albert Wallace, Jr., 45.

All suspects are charged with aggravated kidnapping.

As of Monday afternoon, it was still unclear exactly how long the victims were believed to have been held hostage, where they came from or how the suspects gained control of them. SAPD has released very few details about the case.

The arrests, however, attracted the attention of other motel guests, including a man who did not want to reveal his identity.

“First, they knocked on my door to see if there was anyone inside. I was like, 'No, there's no one in there,'” he said. “I was at the pool and they tried to go to another room.”

Eventually, he saw police officers handcuffing several people.

While the unidentified guest said he didn't know at first what was going on, in hindsight he noticed something unusual about the people in the room.

“They kind of looked a little fishy,” he said. “But I don’t know, you wouldn’t expect that from most people.”

But he said he expected that from the motel, which has seen numerous incidents, including drug busts and raids.

SAPD figures appear to support his claims.

Over the past year, more than 160 calls have been made to police at this address.

The nature of the calls ranges from disturbances to drug activity, and from thefts to fugitives found on site.
