The Lil Ron Story: Jackson-area rapper arrested on drug charges

A local rapper was sentenced to 170 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute more than 37 grams of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Ronald Cobbs aka Lil Ron aka Reverend Bankroll, Jr., 39, of Jackson, was distributing narcotics from his t-shirt business located at North Mart Plaza in Jackson.

Cobbs was indicted by a federal grand jury and pleaded guilty in February 2024 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney Todd Gee and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Anessa Daniels-McCaw of the Drug Enforcement Administration made the announcement.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Rankin County Sheriff's Office and the Ridgeland Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Keesha Middleton.

The case is the result of an extensive investigation targeting illegal drug trafficking in and around the Jackson, Mississippi area. The case is part of an investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). The OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, multi-agency approach based on intelligence that leverages the forces of federal, state and local law enforcement against criminal networks.
