The Houston SPCA rescues 9 malnourished dogs and learns of a cat set on fire in Drifting Winds in northeast Harris County.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities in northeast Harris County have made a heartbreaking discovery of nine malnourished animals and a 6-week-old kitten that were believed to have been set on fire.

The Houston SPCA and Harris County Constable Precinct 1 said that around 3 a.m. Thursday, officers received reports of a cat on fire in the 12600 block of Drifting Winds.

The SPCA said video captured the kitten running while engulfed in flames. According to the organization, the cat was taken to the veterinarian and had to be euthanized due to the extent of the injuries.

PCT. I stated that the officers returned to the home with a search warrant after several witnesses pointed out the presence of other animals. Nine dogs, including seven puppies, were found in poor condition, without water, authorities said.

Two suspects have been identified and are believed to be aged between 10 and 15 years old.

Investigators said they had not contacted them and did not know if they lived in the home where the animals were found.

The SPCA said an investigation was underway into the animal cruelty case and a custody hearing for the dogs would take place next week.
