The high-speed chase ends when the driver crashes into a wall and tree near downtown Santa Rosa.

A high-speed chase on the 101 Freeway late last week ended when the driver crashed into a wall and tree near downtown Santa Rosa.

The pursuit began when a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop the driver of a gray BMW for reckless driving around 9 p.m. Friday on Santa Rosa Avenue near Todd Road, the department said in a statement Press.

The driver failed to stop and continued north. The deputy followed him for about two miles until he lost sight of the car.

Henry-1, the sheriff's office helicopter, spotted the vehicle minutes later traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 101 near Highway 12.

The driver then exited the highway onto Wilson Street and headed toward downtown Santa Rosa, where a Santa Rosa police officer began following the vehicle, the release states.

Shortly after, the driver crashed in the 400 block of South A Street.

The driver was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail in Santa Rosa on suspicion of several charges, including reckless driving and felony evading peace officers.

The sheriff's office did not initially provide the driver's name.
