The Foundation expresses its concern about teenage pregnancies

The Project Coordinator of Jofunmi Loving Heart Foundation, Mrs. Olusola Ojo, expressed concern over teenage pregnancies.

She stressed that this problem perpetuates the vicious cycle of poverty and results in children who do not receive adequate care.

Ojo suggested that integrating child rights and protection laws, as well as sex education, into the school curriculum would significantly contribute to educating children about their rights and encourage them to avoid actions that could compromise their future.

She also urged government at all levels to become more committed to providing Nigerian children with a better future by improving access to quality education rather than spending on frivolities.

Ojo made the appeal on Monday during the foundation's program organized to celebrate Children's Day.

During the foundation's outreach events, held at the Living Word Church International in Lafenwa, Abeokuta, and Oladotun community in Adehun area of Abeokuta, over 900 children received various gifts and food parcels.

The children also enjoyed a range of activities including indoor games such as Ludo and Scrabble, as well as theater performances, quizzes and dance competitions, among other fun events.

She said: “Yes, teenage pregnancy is a cause for concern for everyone because we are talking about someone who is not yet financially, emotionally, physically ready to have a child and in most cases, it becomes a vicious circle, children born in such an environment, due to lack of care, also continue the same trajectory, favoring vicious circles of poverty and others.

“This is why the government must increase its spending in the education sector to expand access to quality education. Including laws on sex education and protection of children's rights in our school curriculum will also help children know their rights and be more aware on certain aspects. of these pitfalls which could jeopardize their future”

Ojo said the foundation decided to celebrate with the children to give them a sense of belonging and reinforce that a fruitful and glorious future awaits them.

She explained, “More often than not, society doesn't remember these kids, but part of our mission is to help them become the best they can be.

“Children’s Day is another opportunity to show our love to these wonderful children. We supported over 500 of them with gifts and food parcels during a program held at Living Word Church, Lafenwa, while another 400 children from Oladotun community, Adehun area, in Abeokuta, were also welcomed to a children’s party with plenty of food to eat and gifts to take home. “.

She urged children to strive for excellence in life and never let their background stop them from becoming the best in the world.

Ojo called on well-meaning Nigerians and businesses to join forces with the government to give children a better future.
