The First Descendant features Warframe-style looter shoots in July

The Warframe-like “next-gen looter shooter” The First Descendant will be released this summer, on July 2, 2024. The “next-gen” part probably refers to Unreal Engine 5, and it’s true, it’s a real look this one. The trailer below is mostly scripted or edited bits, but after playing part of the final tech test, there are some truly impressive sci-fi vistas to see, as well as some absolutely huge bosses. Click through the trailer below, until the purple hat or whatever it is you kids are coveting these days, appears with a synapse-tickling sound studied by psychologists for ten- eight months.

This one is a four-player cooperative game, where you'll team up to shoot dudes, collect loot, shoot more dudes, collect more loot, modify your gear, pay a weekly cash shopping bill for a luxury shirt probably, collect more loot, then fight a very big boss. Each of the characters has different elemental abilities, and there's also a grappling hook somewhere, why not. The idea is, I suppose, to string together abilities and movement technology into a kind of fluid, Warframe-style violent dance. The game also promises “single player” missions, for those of you who don't trust your existing friends not to mess up your sick grappling hook combos. Honestly, I'd probably buy an art book for this one, although it's unlikely I'll end up playing it. It has every GaaS feature you can imagine, and so I remain both intrigued and wary about letting it near my house.
