The CRD board of directors will bring the problems to the UBCM table

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has identified key issues that it will take to the provincial level.

At its May 24 board meeting, the CRD said it would bring its issues and concerns to the attention of provincial ministers at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) conference. this year, which will take place later this year in September.

The UBCM Congress is an annual event that allows local government elected officials to engage with provincial agencies, ministers, staff and others, and provides an opportunity to collectively advocate for policy change in the province. The conference also provides an opportunity to raise concerns with each minister, which the CRD plans to do.

The CRD board has identified four key topics to discuss with ministers.

They will highlight the negative impacts of large-scale burning bans on local FireSmart efforts with BC Wildfire staff.

They will advocate for the enforcement of sewerage regulations by provincial staff to improve the health of local watersheds to the Minister of Health and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

The CRD will also discuss expanding access to the Esler Sports Complex from Highway 20 and advocate for changes to rural school speed zones in rural areas and on numbered highways with the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
