The Chosen ends partnership with Angel Studios due to alleged breaches of contract

The chosen The series about the life of Jesus Christ has ended its partnership with Angel Studios due to alleged contract breaches.

Angel Studios has announced its intention to appeal the termination of the contract.

Dallas Jenkins, the creator of the popular Christian franchise that debuted on the Angel Studios app in 2019, shared a video message on social media on Wednesday, explaining why they decided to part ways with the distributor.

Jenkins expressed his appreciation for Angel Studios' contribution to launching his show and for the “complete creative and ownership freedom” he received through their collaboration. However, he noted that “the burden we carried was far greater than any of us anticipated for the rest of the series.”

He added: “Of your contributions, less than half have reached us, about 40 percent. The rest went to marketing and Angel Studios. »

Angel Studios disputed Jenkins' claims regarding the financial arrangement. According to a statement to The Christian Postthey insisted that “the deal was a 50/50 split after expenses.”

After deciding to cut ties with Angel Studios, Jenkins said they sought arbitration rather than litigation: “We simply asked an arbitrator to decide whether or not the contract had been broken and should be terminated.” It reported that the arbitrator “largely upheld our position” and concluded that “the contract is effectively terminated and the relationship between 'The Chosen' and Angel Studios is effectively terminated.”

Angel Studios CEO Neil Harmon expressed his disappointment but remained proud of his role in the series' success, telling the outlet: “Unfortunately, The Chosen, Inc. has chosen to end its agreement with us “We hope that one day the agreement will be restored – and we plan to maintain the appeal provision that Angel and The Chosen agreed to as a process for resolving disagreements in private.”
