The Chicago Fire looks to continue their winning streak and extend their winning streak to three – NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Fire look to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on Orlando City on Saturday.

The Fire are coming off back-to-back wins against the LA Galaxy and Toronto FC. In fact, Chicago hasn't lost any of its last four games, with the other two results being draws against DC United and Orlando City, respectively.

Their last two victories were the first in over a month. More than the victories, it was the performances achieved by the team which undoubtedly increased the team's confidence.

“I think when the team plays well and you get results, I think, of course, the confidence level increases within the team,” Frank Klopas said. “I don’t think there’s any secret about it. The results impact the mentality, the mental state of the team. One thing, though, is that when we go through tough times, and look, it's not like we're out of tough times, we have to continue to stay grounded and work hard.

Orlando and the Fire are tied in the standings with 18 points each. They faced off just over three weeks ago at Soldier Field and drew 1-1. If the Fire want to turn the tide, they cannot underestimate any opponent.

“We've worked extremely hard on how they're going to press us, and we're going to be ready for the game. You know, the team is in a good period right now, in a good way, not only the players who are starting , but I think it is more important that the guys came in, even in the last game, that they came in as substitutes and that they contributed to the team,” Klopas said.

The deciding factor in the Fire's last two games is their ability to score goals, something the team has struggled with so far this season.

In their last two games, the Fire have scored six goals. To put that into context, Chicago has scored six in its previous ten games, dating back to April 6.

Unsurprisingly, this also coincided with Hugo Cuypers' return to form. Cuypers, one of the Fire's marquee signings, has scored in his last three games, doubling his season production.

Offensively, the Fire have shown improvement in recent games, not just Cuypers. They have more ideas for the future and did it without Xherdan Shaqiri who is with Switzerland for the Euro.

“We've done a much better job of running numbers, putting up numbers, and I think that's helped us seize the opportunities in front of us.” It all starts from there,” Klopas said. “I think it's very important that you know that we need runs, we need runs at the back. Any time we have an opportunity to move the ball and have players facing forward without pressure, we constantly need runs. We constantly need groceries.

A Fire win would move them to 21 points and see them leapfrog Orlando and get back into the conversation for one of the final playoff spots.
