The body found in Athens is that of a homeless man

A body found June 2 in a wooded area near North Avenue in Athens was identified Wednesday as that of a homeless man.

Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson said the State Crime Lab informed him that Timothy Scott Brown, 62, was positively identified through his fingerprints.

However, the cause of death remains unresolved, he said, but further tests are underway.

Brown's body was found in woods adjacent to the Georgia Division of Family Services, where a homeless camp had been established but later removed.

Another homeless man found the decomposing body of a white man around 2 p.m. on June 2 while walking in the neighborhood, according to Athens-Clarke police.

The 36-year-old contacted police about the body, but was later arrested after police discovered he was wanted on a probation violation warrant.

Wilson said he located relatives in Dacula and Putnam County and informed them of Brown's death.
