The body found adrift at sea is that of a 25-year-old Nepalese woman.

The Maldives Police Service has identified the body found near the Sinamale Bridge.

Police said they received reports of the incident at 1:35 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan said the body found was that of a 25-year-old Nepalese woman. He added that the family of the deceased has also been informed.

Shifan said that while the cause of death remains unknown, police have not yet determined whether to conduct an autopsy or hand over the body to the deceased's family.

The body was found by a speedboat traveling in the area and was taken aboard a dinghy and taken to hospital.

An official at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirmed that the person died on arrival.
