The Anza bushfire is currently 15% contained to 32 acres

A brush fire broke out earlier Thursday on the north end of Anza, below the San Bernardino National Forest, spanning 32 acres and is now 15 percent contained, according to City News Service.

The fire was first reported shortly after noon at the intersection of Howard Road and Old Ranch Road in Anza, the Riverside County Fire Department said. Cal Fire was on scene of the wildland fire when it grew to approximately 20 acres. No injuries were reported at the scene.

The causes of the fire are still under investigation.

At approximately 2 p.m., the fire was mapped at 32 acres and was 0% contained.

Multiple fire engines and crews arrived on scene to battle the flames which were moving at a moderate pace, including the United States Forest Service and the Hemet Fire Department.

Four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-broadcast helicopters flew over the brush fire around 12:45 p.m. and slowed its progress. This helped crews contain the fire to some extent and establish defensive perimeters around all structures.

At 2:15 p.m., the spread of the fire slowed and the air tankers returned to their bases. Flight operations were halted shortly after 3 p.m.

As of 6:30 p.m., the bushfire remains at 32 acres and is 15% contained.
