The American president accepts the use of American weapons on Russian territory – French section

Blinken announced this to reporters after the NATO foreign ministers meeting in Prague, Reuters reported.

The secretary of state explained that the United States was responding to “what is happening in and around the Kharkiv region,” adding that “in recent weeks, Ukraine has asked us for authorization to use the weapons which we provide to defend ourselves, also against Russian forces massing on their side of the border and then attacking Ukraine.”

This request, as Blinken added, “was made directly to President Biden – who has consented to the use of our weapons for this purpose.” The US official said that going forward, the US administration “will continue to do what we have done so far, which is to adapt as necessary.”

Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, is located 30 kilometers from the border with Russia. For months now, it has been violently hit by the invaders' artillery, rockets and drones, often hitting civilian targets.

However, as the attacks came from the Russian side of the border, Ukrainian forces were unable to respond with the long-range weapons provided, due to NATO countries' concern to allow it.

Now the situation in the region will finally change – although Blinken did not make clear whether Biden's approval could also be extended to deeper military targets in Russia or other areas where Russian invaders are gathering their forces and their equipment at the border.

However, a US official told the Polish PAP agency on Friday that the ban on using ATACMS and other US-supplied long-range missiles on Russian territory outside the Kharkiv region would remain in place. force.
