Thai, Chinese law enforcement strengthens anti-trafficking efforts

The enhanced cooperation was highlighted during a visit by the head of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), Major General Sarut Kwaengsopha, to Kunming in China's Yunnan province.

Thai and Chinese law enforcement agencies are stepping up collaboration to address the growing challenges of human trafficking and call center scams plaguing both countries. The enhanced cooperation was highlighted during a visit by the head of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), Major General Sarut Kwaengsopha, to Kunming in China's Yunnan province.

During his visit, Pol Maj Gen Sarut observed local immigration police operations and discussed ongoing collaborative efforts. He highlighted efficiency gains through technology, which has reduced workload by around 80%. Discussions also extended to the Thai consulate in Kunming, where efforts are being monitored regarding fraudulent operations activities and tracking down human trafficking suspects who have fled from Thailand to China.

Both sides also outlined plans to tackle associated problems such as prostitution and child labor. Major General Sarut then met with officials from the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center (LMLECC) to discuss regional cooperation between China, Laos and Cambodia. , Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand in the fight against transnational crime along the Mekong. The LMLECC has created an extensive online database to monitor and combat human trafficking, drug trafficking and arms smuggling, strengthening border security through modern technologies and joint patrols.
