Texas man, registered sex offender, arrested after trying to fraudulently withdraw money from local credit union | Texas

GROVES, Texas — Quick action by the Groves Police Department led to the arrest of a man who attempted to fraudulently withdraw money from Gulf Credit Union Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. on May 30, officers were dispatched to the credit union located at 5140 W. Parkway for a report of a suspicious individual. An alert teller noticed that the ID photo presented did not match the individual attempting to make the withdrawal and immediately contacted police.

Officers arriving on scene saw the suspect, identified as Troy Sanders, 52, of Houston, exit the credit union. Sanders fled on foot but was pursued and intercepted by the Groves Street Crimes Unit near a nearby business.

Sanders was taken into custody without further incident and charged with multiple offenses, including evading arrest with a prior conviction, tampering with a financial instrument, and tampering with a government/national/money/security instrument. He also had an active arrest warrant from Harris County for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

“This positive outcome is the result of excellent teamwork between the vigilant staff of Gulf Credit Union and the dedicated officers of the Groves Police Department,” the department said. “The rapid action and coordination illustrates our commitment to maintaining the safety and security of our community.”

The Groves Police Department praised the credit union staff for their attentiveness and the officers for their quick response and professionalism.
