Texas man identified as motorcyclist killed in crash on I-24 in South Nashville, Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Texas motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday evening that closed Interstate 24 in south Nashville for several hours, officials said.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 in the eastbound lanes of I-24 between Bell Road and Haywood Lane.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates Matthew Arevalo, 22, of Texas, was struck sideways by a white vehicle while attempting to pass between vehicles.

The impact reportedly caused Arevalo to hit a Mini Cooper in the next lane, which was stopped due to traffic.

According to MNPD, Arevalo got off his motorcycle before it slid into a retaining wall and caught fire.

Arevalo died at the scene and was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, police said.

The Mini Cooper remained on scene and the people in the vehicle were not injured. According to authorities, there are no signs of impairment in either driver.
