US News

An international fugitive from Mexico, living illegally in the United States and wanted for murder by Interpol, cried during her arrest last week in Texas.

Leo Acosta Sanchez, 21, was captured May 24 while being arrested during a routine traffic stop as part of a collaboration between local and federal authorities.

“During a routine patrol, vigilant Splendora Police officers identified the wanted individual driving a vehicle and quickly called for backup,” the department announced Saturday.

“After the arrival of additional units, a traffic stop was carried out, leading to the immediate arrest of the driver, identified as Leo Acosta Sánchez,” the statement continued.

Authorities knew Sanchez lived in the area, was wanted by Interpol and knew of her travel habits.

“The suspect, who resided illegally in our state and country, was known to travel between the city and her residence in Terrenos.”

Terrenos is a residential community with cheap land for sale outside of Houston.

“As part of a joint effort with the Department of Homeland Security, Ms. Sanchez was taken into custody to face charges related to the alleged crimes committed,” the department said.

Authorities have not released the exact charges against Sanchez or provided details regarding the alleged murder.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News Digital that Sanchez was originally from Mexico.

“Acosta entered the United States as a nonimmigrant on August 20, 2023, and violated the conditions of her admission,” the federal law enforcement agency said. “She remains in ICE custody pending adjudication of her immigration proceedings.”

Photos shared by Splendora police showed Sanchez captured apparently crying with her hands cuffed behind her as she sat in the back of a police car.

“The Splendora Police Department commends the quick and effective collaboration with our federal partners to ensure the apprehension of this dangerous individual,” Splendora said.
