Terrelle Pryor stable after stabbing, but charged

NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor was reportedly stabbed in the chest and shoulder at a Pittsburgh-area apartment around 4:30 a.m. ET Saturday morning, as first reported by WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh And later by ESPN.

Pryor, 30, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for emergency treatment. After being listed in critical condition, he appears to have made notable progress and was upgraded to stable state.

But Pittsburgh police charged Pryor and a 24-year-old woman named Shalaya Briston for the incident. Pryor was charged with simple assault and Briston was charged with attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault.

The police report states that the violent crimes unit determined that Pryor and Briston were considered the “common combatants in this incident.” Pryor's knife wounds were suffered during an argument at an apartment in the 200 block of Heinz Street on the city's North Side. Briston was also injured in the incident.

Free agent Pryor played eight seasons in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars before being released earlier this season and has not appeared in any NFL games this season.
