Tennessee cop's teenage daughter missing after leaving Florida hospital

The 16-year-old daughter of a Tennessee police officer disappeared after voluntarily leaving a Florida hospital last week, authorities said.

Abigail Kate Velez was reported missing on Thursday, June 6, the Pensacola Police Department shared in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Velez left Baptist Hospital on her own, Mike Wood, public information officer for the Pensacola Police Department, told PEOPLE. According to Wood, she would not be in danger. It is still unclear why she left at that time.

The teenager was taken to the hospital by her father, but it is unclear why, ABC affiliate WATE reported.

Blue Line Tennessee, a nonprofit foundation for law enforcement officers and their families, said in a Facebook post that the father is a state police officer and that they were vacationing in Pensacola.

Wood noted that authorities continue to search for her throughout the state.

Nancy Barger, Velez's aunt, shared a message begging her niece to come home, WATE reported.

“Abby, honey, if you see this, we're all looking for you and we love you so much and your mom and dad are worried to death and so are your brothers, so just try to reach out to any of you between us if you can,” Barger said.

Police said Velez was 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 130 pounds. She has green eyes and dirty blonde hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 850-435-1845.
