Temperatures near 100°F, feels like 105°F

The ABC13 Weather Team has declared Friday a severe weather alert day.

It's even warmer than Thursday. Thunderstorms will develop as the afternoon progresses, but I think they will develop a little slower than Thursday, which means we should have more heat and more humidity as the afternoon progresses.

Air temperatures on Friday will approach 100, with feels like temperatures, or heat indexapproaching 105 in some areas.

For this reason, a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Friday for areas south of the James River until 8 p.m.

Try to stay cool and hydrated tomorrow. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and try to find air conditioning.

A few thunderstorms will form in the afternoon and with all this heat and humidity, some of these could have an impact as the day approaches, so keep an eye on the radar as well.

Looking towards the weekend, it's still warm, but not as warm.

Highs are in the 90s to 95s, with feel-good temperatures approaching 100 degrees, and there will be a scattering of thunderstorms each afternoon, likely more on Saturday than Sunday as a front will be overhead Saturday afternoon.

Looking ahead to next week, we are slowly but surely moderating these temperatures back to more normal values by mid to late next week. Additionally, the chances of rain (although there is still no deluge in sight) appear to be higher heading into next week to perhaps get some much needed precipitation.
