GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Despite a heat warning, hundreds of people gathered in Germantown on Thursday to celebrate the Fourth of July with a massive fireworks display.

Last year, the event at Germantown City Park was canceled due to rain. This year, people showed up in red, white and blue, ready to celebrate the nation's 248th birthday.

“I'm wearing a Fourth of July theme, Independence Day, because it's for independence,” one partygoer said.

But beyond the face paint and fun headbands, there was a battle between Mother Nature and Uncle Sam as temperatures hovered near 100 degrees.

Keeping cool was the name of the game, with fans blowing mist, people camping in the shade and plenty of cold treats handed out.

Corey Miller owns The Ice Truck and enjoys a good warm beer on the Fourth of July. This is his eighth consecutive year at the Independence Day celebration.

“Today will probably be the busiest day of the year. It’s my favorite event of the year.m “It’s an event we look forward to every year,” Miller said.

Despite the heat, the Fourth of July holiday is a time for the community to come together and celebrate something everyone can get behind.
