Temperatures climb into the 90s, near 100° Wednesday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The forecast hasn't changed much over the past day as it remains marked by our first period of prolonged summer temperatures across the state. Wednesday looks to be our hottest day statewide over the next week, with temperatures reaching the mid 90s and lower 100s. The other thing we'll keep an eye on is the risk of periodic thunderstorms over the next week, with the potential for strong to severe storms.

Through Tuesday evening, calm conditions are expected across the state, with mostly clear skies and warm conditions. On Wednesday, mostly sunny to mostly sunny skies are forecast. Although there is a marginal and slight risk of severe storms in the northeastern part of the state, we believe most areas will likely remain dry as the overall risk of storms is low. If something manages to appear, it could become strong to severe fairly quickly with a rather unstable environment in the area. Otherwise, Wednesday looks set to be a warm, slightly humid and windy day. South and southwest winds are expected between 15 and 25 km/h with gusts sometimes between 30 and 40 km/h.

Morning temperatures will be around normal for this time of year, falling into the upper 50s to low 60s statewide, with calm conditions to start the day.

Look for lows in the 60s for most of the state through Wednesday morning.(KOLN)

Afternoon temperatures will rise into the 90s statewide, with some locations likely threatening or pushing into the lower 100s. For Lincoln, the forecast high of 96° would be the warmest Capitol City has experienced since late September 2023. The record has been 101° since 1987.

On Wednesday, look for highs ranging from the mid-90s to the low 100s statewide.(KOLN)

Fortunately, the dew points should not be too impressive over the next few days. We expect dew point temperatures to be in the upper 60s to mid 60s through Wednesday, which could push “feel like” temperatures into the upper 90s and into the lower 100s.

A weak cold front will extend into the northern part of the state as Thursday approaches. This will drop temperatures in the northern half of the state, while southern Nebraska will still see temperatures in the 90s, with some locations reaching the upper 90s near 100°.

Friday looks to be our coolest day – at least statewide – for next week as the front moves through the rest of the state. We should see highs drop to the 80s to near 90° by Friday afternoon.

Highs will fall back into the 80s to reach near 90° on Friday.(KOLN)

Temperatures over Father's Day weekend rise back into the 90s for Lincoln and southeastern Nebraska, with highs reaching the mid-90s for Lincoln on Sunday. Wednesday and Thursday will most likely be dry for Lincoln and southeastern Nebraska, with our best chance for moisture over the next week likely coming Friday evening overnight. We'll keep chances for scattered showers and storms in the forecast through early next week, with at least a low threat of a few strong to severe storms mixed in at times.

The long-range forecast remains warm through next week, with periodic showers and thunderstorms possible.(KOLN)
